Originally a barrister, Martin has 30 years’ industrial, commercial and professional services experience as an HR specialist. Along with continuous hands-on work with employees, employers, directors and partners, he has sat on a number of executive boards – including at one time as chief executive of an NHS trust. His friendly, practical and direct approach to mediation is based on his senior level experience and handling of working relationships at all levels in a wide range of sectors, including the electronics and pharmaceutical industries, publishing, luxury goods and a major City law firm. He has developed a particular understanding of the human dimensions of structural and cultural change in businesses. Martin combines a clear grasp of underlying legal principles with wide experience of their practical application in employment and workplace relationships. He has led HR teams at Rhône-Poulenc Rorer, Wellhouse NHS Trust, Oxford University Press, Phillips Auctioneers and Slaughter and May. As a seasoned commercial HR director he knows the limitations, and costs, of using the law to settle disputes. Martin holds the Financial Times Non-Executive Director Certificate. He is a non-executive director of EMLC Academy Trust and sits on the Appeal Committee of the Chartered Insurance Institute. He is also a referral panel volunteer with the Oxfordshire Youth Offending Service.
He has a high success rate in his mediations with us.
